You don’t have to have it all figured out
Just start. Take the next small step.
A Martin Luther King Jr. quote that have always stuck with me is “Faith is taking the first step, even when you don't see the whole staircase.”
I’ve used it to encourage friends who are about to transition into something new, friends who are doubting and overthinking what decision need to be made… I’ve read it countless times in other forms or paraphrases.
Applying it is a different story, but I’m grateful for the courage God supplies as I try living up to this advice I always give.
This year has been a year of starts and figuring things out along the way. I started doing more of what I liked and things I wanted to do “just because.” No other reason.
Exhibit A: I’ve always wanted to do something “meaningful.” Meaningful to me, first. But perhaps someone else might feel the same way. A k-pop event was one of that. And we got to its culmination—just last weekend Cherryhae Day happened! It’s a birthday event for a cause and it’s for the leader (Choi Seungcheol a.k.a. S.coups) of a k-pop boy group I like: SEVENTEEN.
It’s my first k-pop event as an organizer!!!! And it’s made meaningful by our collaboration with Compassionate Community Kitchen 🍒 I got to share about their mission and part of the proceeds from the event will go back to supporting their cause of serving hope and compassion.
I’ve only volunteered for church-run events before and this is the first time I spearheaded one. I couldn’t have done it without God’s amazing provision. He gave me connections, and chingus who did it with me!!! I’m in awe of how everything panned out. From jokingly talking about doing this with Jia, to posting an interest check tweet, to doing a poll on how much fans are ready to spend for events like this, to contacting suppliers and coordinating with CCK.
And so many mooooore! A testament to not needing to figure out everything before starting.
Just take the first small step.
God will help us figure it out along the way and He will surprise you with what’s on the other side of that staircase!
