a writer’s creative stamp

Last 2020, I created a Twitter account that’s solely meant for art and design tweets and transactions…which then evolved into a stan twt lol. It also became an avenue for me to find new people to collaborate with. I met Katie Davis through a tweet saying she’s looking for a logo designer...and the rest, as they say, is history! So grateful for her and for the logo design projects we got to work on together.

Read on to see a glimpse of my process in designing logos, while Katie also gave some of her perspective as a client on how logo design can be beneficial for your personal brand and business.

The original logos I had for both of my businesses were designed by me (and I'm not a graphic designer!). I liked them but they looked amateurish and didn't exactly reflect the values of my businesses. For Dream Scribe, it was important that the logo had a high-end, reach-for-the-stars kind of feel to represent high-quality freelance writing services that get results. For Trendy Tourist, I wanted the logo to reflect modern styling with a refined yet accessible feel to reflect our values of helping busy women to dress, travel and live in style (without breaking the bank).

These are the old logos that Katie used for her platforms.

She clearly knew her brand’s core values—from personality to the message they convey which made it such a breeze for me to work with her!

One of the logo design studies for Trendy Tourist that I presented.

Out of all the designers who replied to her tweet…I got curious as to what her considerations were in choosing a designer, and here’s what she said:

I look for someone with exceptional talent. Experience level isn't as important to me, but it helps if the collaborator can demonstrate their talent through a portfolio of samples (even if they haven't worked with clients yet). I also look for someone who's going to work hard and give my project the time it deserves, given that I've spent so much time and hard work building the businesses over the last five years! I chose Gielizza because her previous work was exceptional. She was also extremely enthusiastic and timely in responding to my questions and emails. I felt like she really cared about me and my businesses - plus, she had the skills too! Win-win.

Variations and studies for Dream Scribe.

Logos aren’t just for your brand to have a “pretty face,” it has to help you establish your business and eventually make profit. This is what I’ve learned and I’m learning still through my years of working on brand identities. With a bit of tears in my eyes and with my cheeks blushing, I’m so grateful to hear these words from a client~

Gielizza's logos have put a professional yet creative stamp on the branding of my businesses and made them stand out from my competitors. The typography, colours and placement of each element for each logo better represent what my businesses are about and the core values. I feel very fortunate that I found Gielizza!

And here’s some solid advice coming from someone who invested in a logo designer (wink wink):

I would say that it's definitely worth it. In the beginning of building my businesses, I thought that I wasn't able to dedicate funds to logo design and I regret this. I feel like I should have gone for it and hired a logo designer from the start so each business could make an impact from the start. Anyway, I've corrected this now! Thanks so much, Gielizza - I would recommend you to anyone!

So grateful for you, too, Katie! May God continue to bless the works of our hands ^_^
